ancestors that were African-American, Native-American, or any other minority that may not
have left much of a paper trail. What you will find here is based on the suggestions

- For those who may not be familiar, Cyndi's Genealogy List probably has more links
than most of us could follow in a year. She even has a whole section related to
African-American and Native American research. Although those lists are not specific
to Louisa County, you may gain some insight into what type of records exist, and tips on
conducting research.

- "Pat" posted the following information on VA-ROOTS:
"According to the article in the April 19, 1999 issue of Time, there are two websites
valued and respected as resources for up-to-date information and discussion for the
African ancetored. One is the website founded by Mississippi State University, Afrigeneas
(www.msstate.edu/Archives/History/afrigen/);
and the other is Christine's genealogy website (www.ccharity.com).
The article also references another site (www.nypl.org/research/sc/sc.html).
- Several people have recommended we all browse through documents we have collected,
and pull out any names we find. When people wrote their Will they frequently
referred to their slaves by name, or when their estate was appraised they also listed the
names. If people would submit their names, I can start a "Louisa-speciific"
list. Also, I know there is a website somewhere that collects those names, and I
will find it and list it here.
