Guidelines for Mailing Lists

1. Do not send spam e-mail messages to mailing lists.
2. Do not send attachments (attached files) of any sort to mailing lists. This includes URL shortcuts, v-cards, GEDCOM files, zipped files, and any other type of attachment.
3. Do not forward virus hoaxes or chain letters to mailing lists.
4. Do not use HTML or RTF (rich text format) in messages sent to mailing lists.
5. Do not cross-post messages to multiple mailing lists on the "To:" line or the "Cc:" line of the e-mail message.
6. Do not send e-mail messages to mailing lists for which the topic is inappropriate.
7. Do not flame other members of the mailing list.
8. Be nice to one another.

How To Subscribe

If you have an interest in Louisa County, please consider joining our mailing list.  You can choose to subscribe in either "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to VALOUISA as a separate e-mail, or you can join in "digest mode" where several postings are combined and then sent to you together as a single large message.  At any time you can switch modes by following the directions for switching modes, or you can choose to unsubscribe at any time.

MAIL MODE

1. How to subscribe.  Just click on the link below, and place only the word "subscribe" in the body of the message.

2.  How to unsubscribe. Click on the link above, and place only the word "unsubscribe" in the body of the message.

3. How to change from "mail mode" to "digest mode".  There are two steps. First, unsubcribe from "mail mode". Second, follow the directions below to subscribe in "digest mode".

4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again.

5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to VALOUISA-L@rootsweb.com. It will then be sent to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You do not need to send it explicitly to both lists.

How To Unsubscribe

First you must determine if you are subscribed in "mail mode" or "digest mode".  If you receive individual mail messages, you are in "mail mode" and should follow the instructions above for MAIL MODE.

If you receive your multiple messages in a digest form, then you are subscribed in "digest mode" and should follow the directions above for DIGEST MODE.
