  • WEST posted by Ben West on Tuesday, January 20, 1998
  • Email: bmwest@usit.net

WEST - It is recorded in my family history that my ancestors lived in Greensprings, Louisa County, Virginia. The first name that I will mention is Amos West, born in 1766 at Louisa County, Virginia. He died in 1818 at Logan County, Kentucky. He is my direct ancestor. His parents are unknown to me, and for this reason I am posting this query. The West Family History Book lists them as "Unknown" West and Isabel________. (Unknown West is believed to be a son of Col. John West) Isabel was supposedly part of a wealthy aristocratic family in Virginia of royal descent. (Her surname was not listed.) However, in light of my recent studies, this information is seeming to be incorrect. I was wondering if someone might know the real names of Amos West's parents. Also I will include the names of Amos's siblings. They are listed as follows. James- b. 1756, William b. 1758, Agnes and Leonard- b. 1762, Richard-b.1764, and Amos-b. 1766. It is also recorded that Amos's parents died at an early age, and the children were raised by a maiden aunt, Miss Lucy Fike. With Miss Fike as their guardian, they moved to Orange County, North Carolina. When he was a young man, he was travelling in Chatham County, North Carolina, where he met a beautiful young woman named Frances Herndon. Amos accompanied Frances and her family on a migration to Logan County, KY. Perhaps, you can locate matching or similar information in county records. If not, possibly you could transfer me to someone who does know. Thank You.
