Found the following about a how many great grandfather in Wilson by Torrence: "In July 1796 Joseph SOUTHERLAND of Louisa County conveyed (for £40) to Susanah Southerland, a negro girl named Kitty. … In 1802 John M. Southerland, of Dinwiddie County, conveyed, for natural love and affection, to John Fendall BELL, son of Susannah Bell (and all the rest of her children), of Louisa County, a negro girl named Kitty." Susannah apparently married Ashley Bell in Fluvanna County in 1797. Anyone have more to add? Charlie McNett Bethesda, MD

I would like to Register for the Jones Surname list. My line comes from Louisa County, Virginia and I have listed my Jones Family on Rootsweb at World Connect. I published a Jones Book that I would like to send to the Louisa County Historical Society if they are interested. In 1836, Francis William JONES was the presiding Magistrate of Lousia County when John William Jones was born. Rev. John William Jones along with his brothers Philip Edloe and Francis Pendleton entered in CSA under Gen. A.P. Hill's Division at Harper's Ferry. Rev. Jones was one of the three ministers who preached General Lee's and Jefferson Davis funerals. We have books from his library including books by Henry Lee, Robert E. Lee Jr., Jefferson Davis wife and many others along with some of his original papers and many other Virginia articles. I am interested in contacting other members of this Jones Family of Virginia.

  • COLEMAN, JOHNSON, THOMPSON posted by B. M. Kid on Tuesday, February 27, 2001
  • Email: nyumbac@hotmail.com

Researching the genealogy line of Frederick JOHNSON, he was married to Julia COLEMAN, and they reared about ten children. I understand my great-great grandfather was a land owner (approx. 50 acres) in Louisa County, VA during the 1800s. My great-grandmother Ruth Anna THOMPSON (their daughter) was born in Louisa County and later married Charles Thompson of Alabama, before moving to New York City. Land in Louisa County was eventually acquired by the state in the 1970s for an electric power company. Attorney representing the family was W.W. Whitlock This area may have also been an Indian Reservation and great-grandparents were Native American Indians. Looking for any information on this area, on my family history, or Native American Indians who resided in this area, existing relatives, friends of family, etc.
